Welcome to my newsletter! In an age of decentralized social media, the goal of Carceral History is to provide a platform for sharing book news and other fresh research in U.S. carceral history, particularly by professionally-trained historians and people in related fields. If you are an author, journal editor or book publicist: I want to hear from you about how I can support your work!

I can't promise to share everything but I am hoping to use this platform to show that you can't understand U.S. history without understanding carceral history.

about the publisher: Melanie Newport is associate professor of history at UConn Hartford and author of This Is My Jail: Local Politics and the Rise of Mass Incarceration. She is co-editor of the forthcoming edited volume, The Cambridge Companion to American Carceral History. She has been teaching carceral history since 2011.
